Gastritis
What Is Gastritis?
Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach, it can happen for many reasons. It is very painful. In my case, using anti inflammatories and consuming acidic foods causes this inflammation. If left untreated, it can turn into an ulcer, which can be very painful. An ulcer is essentially a hole forming in your stomach.

How Is It Treated?
You can use Proton Pump Inhibitors to treat this, it reduces the amount of acid in your stomach. I have tried many, which I will elaborate on here when I can find my medication list.
Proton Pump Inhibitors gave me many side effects, regardless of trying many kinds. It causes upset throughout my digestive tract and a lot of diarrhea. Obviously, I have stopped this form of treatment, and have switched to treatment via diet. I follow a Low FODMAP diet, where I consume foods low in acid. My gastritis is so bad that even ketchup can worsen it, so this diet does help. However, I have found this diet not to be enough. Even the smallest irritants causes burning and pain through my stomach. When I switched to a grain free diet, meaning avoiding rice, corn, buckwheat, quinoa and more, on top of my gluten free diet, I have found complete relief. I can eat ketchup again, in small amounts, with no irritation! |
How Does Gastritis Affect My Life?
This does not disrupt my life like the rest of my conditions do. Once I stick to the diet, I am good to go. Without the diet, I am in pain, have a lot of bloating and often vomit. I get the worst heartburn and it feels like my esophagus is on fire. Luckily, I strictly stick to my diet, so it has a minimal effect on my life.
